Truck accessories, Parts, and Bed Liners
Anyone
who owns a truck knows how useful it can be. They are one of the most
important vehicles that are used everyday and are responsible for delivering
everything from food to building supplies. Trucks are built to much
higher standards than a typical sedan. They are designed to take abuse
and “keep on truckin’”. Aftermarket truck parts are
designed to the same high standards, often higher standards, as the
OEM parts that came built in and there are many truck accessories that
can protect the vehicle and extend its operating life.
While car accessories are designed for comfort and ease of use, truck
accessories are tough and protective. A truck bed liner protects the
already durable bed from getting scratched and dirty which can increase
the resale value, which is already much higher for trucks than cars.
They are most often made from thick polycarbonate plastics that are
tough and abrasion and puncture resistant. They slide right into the
bed and are connected with simple bolts or mild adhesives, but many
fit like a glove and don’t need to be secure. Spray on bed liners
are becoming increasingly popular, the entire bed is protected with
a thick yet springy surface that resists corrosion and protects the
metal but is a permanent installment and cannot be removed easily if
at all.
Truck bed covers, or truck caps further protect the bed, as well as
its contents, from weather but more importantly from theft. Trucks are
used for work, and work requires tools. With a bed cover those tools
can be kept where they are needed most, the back of a truck. A truck
is more of a mobile workstation than a form of transportation. They
provide a way for tools, materials and workers to get from one job to
another. Bed covers come in a variety of sizes and materials. Most commonly
they are flush with the back of the cab and extend to the edge of the
bed and can completely lock and secure whatever is in the back of the
truck.
Other truck bed covers merely cover the top of the bed and open with
a hinge. Some are cloth which allows it to be easily removed, but fiberglass
is the most commonly used material because of its durability and ability
to closely match the design elements and color of the truck itself.
These can be found at many discount auto parts stores, as well as OEM
parts directly from the manufacturer.
Other commonly used auto accessories are a trailer hitch. A hitch allows
any sort of trailer to be connected to the back of the truck, whether
it contains horses, a boat or landscaping machinery. Adding a hitch
can greatly increase the amount of supplies and materials that can be
transported with a single truck. Campers, snowmobiles and motorcycles
can easily be moved from one playground to the next with a powerful
truck. Most trucks now rely on a basic square hitch connection which
allows for different sized hitch balls and even custom connections to
be used. With just a little protection a truck can last a lifetime.
