Truck accessories, Parts, and Bed Liners
Welcome
to garagemates.com. Our site is dedicated to gathering and disseminating
information about purchasing truck accessories. Garagemates.com is purely
informational and does not promote or endorse any particular product
or method of shopping.
Our site is designed to educate about the numerous aftermarket add-ons
for trucks for the truck driver's enjoyment.
If you are looking to enhance the style or function of your OEM pickup
truck, then look to an aftermarket retailer for the many truck accessories
available. When you shop you should understand the truck accessories
are different from truck parts that are referred to as "hard parts"
or "cores" that include distributors, radiators, brakes, etc.
Parts are replaced for basic functioning of the track while accessories
are added to improve performance, style, and comfort. Cab covers, grill
guards, and nerf bars are among the most popular accessories for light
duty trucks.
Before the 1990s after-market truck accessories were typically used
for work and included snowplows, spreaders, and lift gates. However,
with the introduction of the extended cab, trucks appealed more to urban
audiences and were purchased for their style as much as their utility.
Businesses realized that consumers wanted more than a toolbox to decorate
their trucks. Truck drivers developed an appetite for accessories to
make their truck look slicker, and manufacturers introduced products
like chrome fenders and hood deflectors. Manufacturers collaborated
with designers so that the truck could easily accommodate accessories
without drilling.
In May, 2004 MTV introduced a show called "Pimp My Ride"
which was devoted exclusively to accessorizing cars and trucks with
high-end items. The show originally began by tricking out only cars,
but introduced trucks over time. These vehicles had thousands of dollars
of aftermarket accessories in a high profile TV program. After the success
of "Pimp My Ride," Country Music Television introduced a six
pilot show called "Trick My Truck." This reality show gave
a trucker and his 18 wheeler all the latest and greatest in features
and equipment. A new market was born for big riggers. Whether you drive
a small truck or an 18-wheeler, you can find all the accessories you
need to reflect your own trucking spirit.
Perhaps the most popular truck accessories are truck bed covers, also
known as tonneau covers. These covers fit snugly over your truck bed
and protect your belongings from weather and theft. Covers can be hard
or soft, but hardcovers have a larger market share because most truckers
feel that they gave a better overall appearance to the truck. In addition,
hardcovers can be painted to match the truck and can be locked, making
them secure from theft.
There are a number of truck accessories for the interior of the truck
that can improve the driver's comfort and the truck’s style. Truck
accessories range from cup holders to thousand dollar entertainment
systems and GPS systems. These accessories can be purchased as part
of an add-on package at the dealer; however, typically this will cost
you more than if you shop at an aftermarket store online. If you have
an older truck, give the interior new life by purchasing new floor mats
or buying seat covers. There are also accessories such as fuzzy dice
to express your personality.
