Truck caps
Truck caps can be made from aluminum, vinyl, steel or
fiberglass. Truck caps originally were made of much weaker materials
such as wood and tin. Today, Fiberglas is the most commonly used material
for truck caps because of its versatility.
Truck caps are also known as camper shells, tops, extenders, lives,
toppers, half cabs, caps, and boots. Several truck makers offer caps
as part of your OEM package. You can, however get an aftermarket shell
which will provide you with more choice in features.
The best truck caps feature a palm grip that latches securely with
just a twist of the wrist. Also, look for a sound structure with a smooth
exterior and a reinforced roof. Interior colors can be matched to your
preference: red, blue, brown, silver and gray are all common choices.
You can even get dark tinted glass for the rear doors and side Windows.
